UNDERSTANDING GOD AS ALMIGHTY

God is Almighty

“I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.”
Genesis‬ ‭17‬:‭1‬ ‭

God introduced Himself to Abraham as God Almighty, also known in Hebrew as El Shaddai. The name reveals God’s all-powerful nature and sovereignty over all things. It signifies God’s ability to accomplish anything according to His will and to fulfill His promises without limitation.

THE MEANING OF GOD ALMIGHTY

  • God is Sovereign

God created the heavens and the earth by His power and He rules over them forever. Genesis 1:1 affirms His sovereignty as the divine Creator who spoke the universe into existence. By His power, He sustains and governs everything according to His will (Col 1:17). God established His throne in heaven and His kingdom rules over all. He reigns supreme as the Lord of lords, the God of gods, and the King of kings; no one can be compared to Him or be like Him. God rules forever by His power and His eyes watch the nations— let not the rebellious rise up against Him (Psa‬ ‭66‬:‭7‬).

  • God has all power and authority

God possesses unlimited power and authority. He performs countless miracles that defy human comprehension, demonstrating His authority over creation (Job 5:9). God’s power transcends limitation of human understanding and natural laws. His greatness is beyond measure, and His might is irresistible and unmatched (Psa 147:5). God’s power is supreme, surpassing all other forces in the universe. Therefore no created being or force can challenge His authority and plans. No one can contend with Him and win, nor resist Him and succeed (Deut 10:17).

  • God can do anything

Daniel 4:35 states “All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done?”” Nothing is too difficult nor impossible for Him. He can do all things and His will cannot be thwarted (Job 42:2). God is able to accomplish His will and purposes without any limitation.

WALKING WITH GOD ALMIGHTY

Believers find hope and confidence in God’s sovereignty and great power, knowing that He can do the impossible (Luke 1:37). We are able to approach God with boldness because we trust in His ability to sustain and provide for His people. We take refuge in God Almighty and rest under His shadow (Ps 91:1). Even as we walk through the darkest valley, we are not afraid because God is with us.

The revelation of God as Almighty assures us that we serve a great God and nothing can be compared to Him. He is perfect in all His ways and reigns supreme. He has all-power and authority to do anything He pleases.
