GOD IS UNCHANGEABLE

“I am the Lord, and I do not change.”
Malachi 3:6

In a world filled with uncertainty, the future may be unknown, but we can find assurance in the one who holds our future, God. He is unchangeable, which means He cannot change His nature, ways, and word.

HIS NATURE

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He never gets any younger or older. He cannot get better or worse, for He is already perfect. God is omnipotent, so He cannot lose any power or acquire additional powers. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow, and this truth is comforting to all of God’s children (Jam‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬). We can rely on God with complete trust and confidence because He is sovereign, having created the world and everything in it, He reigns supreme over all creation and sustains its existence (Col 1:16-17). “If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is” (2 Tim 2:13). Even if we turn our backs on God, He will never forsake us, as He cannot go against His own nature of faithfulness, love, and mercy.

HIS WAYS

There are various factors that alter the way we behave, such as age, gender, ethnicity, and education. But nothing can change the way God acts because God’s ways are always consistent, and He always relates to us in accordance with His unchanging nature. God’s ways cannot be more or less compassionate, just, or good than they were before.

The ways of God remain unchanged from biblical times and will continue to be so. God possesses the same power to heal and offer forgiveness for sins, both in the present day and as depicted in the Bible. So we have confidence that He will fulfill His promises because God always remains true to His word. God assures us in Isaiah 55:11 that His word will not return to Him void, but it will accomplish what He desires and achieve the purpose for which He sent it. Everything that He has promised in His Word will be accomplished.

HIS WORD

We often change our minds on a lot of matters, so the things we say are subject to change. Our words are unstable, but “God is not a man that He should lie or change His mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Num 23:19). The word of God is inerrant and infallible, it is incapable of error as it is divinely inspired by God Himself. It stands forever; it remains unshakeable and unbreakable (Isa 40:6-8).

The eternal truth of God‘s word reveals God’s intentions towards humanity from generation to generation. Isn’t it amazing that the word of God, written thousands of years ago, continues to hold immense power and relevance in today’s world? It stands the test of time, remaining applicable to all contexts and generations. This truth assures us that the promises, purposes, provision, and identity derived from God’s word are infallible and, thus reliable.

Understanding that God is unchangeable keeps us anchored in truth when difficult times come our way. We can confidently rely on His unchanging nature, ways, and word. For in Him, we find stability, reliability, and consistency.
